For many homes, the weekly chore of planning your meals for the week and what ingredients you need is a real hassle. I know in my home, my wife struggles thinking of meals and would often ask me to pitch in ideas. I would then sit scratching my head for several minutes.

This made me think about how I could solve the problem long term. I wanted to build a tool for my wife where we could generate a meal plan for the week and email it to her. Nothing crazy, just something to make life a little easier.

After talking with friends and family it was clear that this was something that many people would find useful. So this was the inspiration for platepickers.com

How does it work 🤷‍♂️

At its core, the service it provides is very simple:

• You can choose the number of days to generate a meal plan for

• The algorithm will then select the required amount of random meals

• You can then swap out any you don't want

• Once you're happy with the meal plan email it to your inbox

• You'll receive an email with links to each recipe and a list of ingredients to go shopping for

Paradox of choice ❓

There is an idea that the more options you have, the harder it is to make a choice. I think that's why sometimes choosing meals can be so painful.

My goal on platepickers.com was to take away that cognitive load. You're never actually choosing from a list of meals. We choose them for you, and if you don't like any, you just click a button to swap and we randomly pick another.

This makes the process super quick and pain free.

Email the goodies 📧

The last step in making this hassle free and a real time saver was emailing the meals and a list of all the ingredients. No more loosing the paper you wrote your meal plan on. No more trying to remember all the ingredients for the meals. These are all now contained in one email in your inbox for easy reference.

Even the list of ingredients have check boxes to tick them off as you go shopping.

Summary

My wife is very happy and we're now eating a wider variety of meals than we have before. Others using the website are saying the same too. I've also not been asked to think of any meals for weeks now, and that's just great too 😅
